Gravel cycling has EXPLODED over the past decade, moving from the fringes of endurance sport to becoming the primary way that cyclists ride, race, and experience life on two wheels. It's a glorious new side of cycling, and we understand that you are excited to get out and try this discipline. With anything new, of course, you probably have questions, and we are here to help.
We don't just answer questions at our clinics—we teach the principles and then we go and PRACTICE. We will spend 90 minutes teaching you all the pertinent skills: bike-body separation, using your body weight to keep the bike under you, how to corner safely and quickly (stay OFF those brakes!), where to focus your eyes while descending, and how to manage awkward or technical sections. Once we introduce the skills we will go and PLAY, covering a 10-15 mile nearby ride that includes all of the features we talked about in the skills portion.
One of our two cycling-focused coaches, Annick Chalier has a long history of cycling excellence in the Pacific Northwest. She has raced on UCI teams at the Vuelta Femenina Colombia and on professional cycling teams such as Automatic.
A consummate educator, Annick is one of Campfire Endurance's staff coaches and and instructor for Brave Endeavors. She loves nothing more than demystifying riding, making it more fun, safer, and faster for all of her students. You will come away from the clinic with all of your gravel questions answered and your skills leveled up!
Join us for a beginner-friendly session aimed at helping road cyclists and triathletes make the transition to riding and racing on gravel, a relatively new discipline that combines the rigor of road racing with the adventure and exploration of trail running and mountain biking. We'll cover bike handling on this new surface, climbing, descending, cornering, appropriate fueling and pacing, and a bunch more.
We'll spend 90 minutes covering the skills necessary to thrive at gravel riding and racing, and then put those skills to the test out on the roads around Mosier, heading out for a 75 to 90-minute ride on the gravel of the magnificent Columbia Gorge.
